3 Heart-Healthy Smoothie Recipes

Healthy Smoothie Recipes East Patchogue, NYIf you are looking for a great (and tasty) way to lower your cholesterol, you need to try these three heart-healthy smoothie recipes. Upping your fiber intake, eating more fruits and veggies, and increased antioxidant intake are known to be great for your heart. Brookhaven Heart has gathered our favorite smoothie recipes to help you get more fruits and veggies in your diet!

Avocado & Blueberry Smoothie

Blueberries are full of antioxidants and disease-fighting phytochemicals. Pair that with the monosaturated fatty acids of the avocado and you have a smoothie that packs a healthy punch!

1 cup frozen blueberries

¼ avocado

1 cup coconut water

juice of ½ lime

1 scoop vanilla whey powder

1 scoop greens powder

Sweeten to taste

4 ice cubes

Blend until smooth.

Chia Seed Acai Smoothie

Acai is one of the world’s most powerful antioxidants and can be purchased in smoothie packets at most supermarkets. Acai has been proven through studies to increase good cholesterol and prevent atherosclerosis. Chia seeds add fiber and healthy omega-3 fatty acids that are great for cardiovascular health.

3 ½ ounces frozen acai

2 cups unsweetened coconut milk

1 ½ tbsp. chia seeds

Stevia to taste

Blend until smooth.

Green Apple Smoothie

This tart treat uses the combination of apple and green veggies to help you to lower LDL and keep hydrated. This is a great option for those who want a change from the typical berry smoothie. This has more of the consistency of a icy juice rather than a thick creamy smoothie.

2 green apples

Juice of ½ lemon

1 handful of greens (spinach, kale, or chard)
4 ice cubes

Blend until smooth.
