What Should I Bring to My Cardiologist Appointment?

What Should I Bring to My Cardiologist Appointment? When you are having heart problems, or suspect that you may have a heart condition, you will want to make an appointment with your cardiologist as soon as possible. It can be quite scary to come to your cardiologist office without knowing exactly what to expect. Brookhaven Heart always wants our patients to get the most out of their appointments. Therefore, it is best to come prepared to your appointment. Here are a few things you need to bring with you to your cardiologist appointment.

List of Medications

Your cardiologist will want to know what medications or supplements you are currently taking. Either write a list of the type of medication, strength, and dosage instructions or bring the bottle/bottles with you. Before prescribing any additional medications, they will want to make sure it won’t be contraindicated by something else you are currently using. Contraindicated means it could have a dangerous side effect if used together with another medication.

Symptom Journal

It is helpful if you write a small journal of the last few weeks regarding your symptoms. Do you feel out of breath first thing in the morning? Is your chest pain only during or after exercise? These are things that your cardiologist would like to know. Write down the date, time, and a short description of your symptoms.

Questions for the Doctor

Sometimes you may think of something to ask your doctor but then forget by the time you come to the appointment. Whenever you think of a question, write it down, and then bring all your questions to your cardiologist appointment. This is a surefire way to ensure that you remember and get answers to all your questions.
