Why do patients need Abdominal Aorta Scan test?

Patients with risk factors for aortic aneurysms can benefit from an annual abdominal aorta scan test.Aortic aneurysms tend to be more common among older people who are 65 years of age or over. Each year, approximately 15,000 Americans die of a ruptured aortic aneurysm. When detected in time, an aortic aneurysm can usually be repaired with surgery. A painless ultrasound scan is the easiest way to detect an AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm). The size of an aneurysm can also be measured by ultrasound. Sometimes a doctor feels the bulge of an aneurysm during a routine examination of the abdomen. However, many AAAs are too small to feel.
