Is Red Wine Good for Your Heart?
Ample evidence suggests that red wine is good for your health. In addition to helping you relax, drinking red wine in moderation – even just one glass a day – can significantly reduce your risk for heart disease.
Red wine contains flavonoids and resveratrol. These compounds can increase the amount of HDL (high-density lipoprotein or good cholesterol) and prevent damage to the arteries. Other benefits of drinking red wine include increased protection of the cardiac muscles and arteries against free radicals, improved mitochondrial function and a reduced risk for blood clots and heart attacks.
If you have any type of heart concern or condition, consult with your cardiologist to learn about any potential positive or negative effects of moderate alcohol consumption.
