How Long Does a Pacemaker Last?
Pacemakers, which are surgically implanted just below the collarbone, typically lasts 5-10 years. The pacemaker’s longevity depends on numerous factors, including include how the device is programmed, how much work it has to perform and how much energy it uses.
Since using a pacemaker can significantly increase one’s lifespan, the average patient may need to have the device repaired or replaced several times over the course of many years. Thanks to advancements in technology, patients can replace specific worn-out components of their pacemakers instead of needing a whole device.
